I previously had a 3/8 inch Sorby Mortise Chisel and I was very happy with it, so, when I needed a 1/4 inch Mortise Chisel, I selected another Sorby. I am very happy with this one also. It is an excellent heavy duty chisel, suitable for cutting mortises, and the 1/4 inch width is is good for cutting mortises in 3/4 inch thick stock.

I have several Sorby mortising chisels, and several carving chisels, and the quality is very good. Easy to sharpen and the edge lasts a long time. So, I decided to purchase Sorby now that I want to do some turning. Of course, these are HSS, not carbon, so it's not an exact comparison, but they seem as nice and my 20 year old chisels.

I have and use multiple sets of chisels - it depends on what I am doing. For this comparison guide all the pictures show a 1/2" chisel. We left out oval handled English mortise chisels because they truly are a different animal.
