Chisels - FineWoodworking- buck brothers tool history ,11-01-2004·I have never counted exactly how many chisels , gouges, and various handled edge tools I own..but it approaches 150..yes some are crap..I have an old 'found" jap chisel..I swear is made from wrought iron..it's a joke, But every Buck bros. that I have come across in the N.E. US..including some that were in other folks shops are fine for their intended purpose..With all due respect to Mr. Hack..The Davistown MuseumIn 1856, they moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, then in 1864 to Millbury, MA. John stayed in Worcester as part of Buck & Reeves, later rejoining Buck Brothers as only an employee. Charles Buck had a fight with his brother and started his own edge tool company in 1873.

They can take a fine edge. but since I never hit them with a hammer it’s difficult. to say if the edge is really durable. Anyway, the old ones have a nice geometry for fine.

30-06-2009·Buck Bros planes leave much to be desired. Buck Bros, years ago made good chisels, but that was a long time ago. Older Stanley, Millers Falls, Keen Kutter made good quality planes. You are much better off going to second hand stores, or thrift shops to find a decent plane.

30-12-2013·Re: Buck Brothers Chisels? "Not a retail set" doesn't make sense. All hand tools are eventually sold at retail for use by individuals. The tools appear to be made by forging, with flanges on the tangs and ferrules on the handles to prevent splitting when used with a mallet.
